Siberian Summer

A group portrait of a Siberian tiger and her three cubs. This is the largest colour pencil painting I have done and took over three months constant work to complete. I couldn't even count the actual hours. The reference material used is my own.

On the 23rd December many year ago I spent hours waiting for these cubs to appear from their den at Marwell zoo. It was so cold but just before closing they appeared. I had about 30 minutes watching them play, it was such a special time. I have painted the mother and cubs separately many times over the years. However this is the first time I have put them all together and in a scene more fitting to Siberian tigers in summer.
