Shade Suits Him

Some kings simply sit in the shifting light and let the world come to them. This lion has that unmistakable energy of a big cat that knows he’s important, and doesn’t need to prove it. I was drawn to the way shadow and sunlight played across his face, softening and sharpening him all at once.

A watercolour on 100% cotton watercolour paper painting by Martli Heyns.
