Poppyland is a name given to Norfolk where I am from. When I was growing up I spent a great deal of time in and around cornfields with poppies and big skies. And I recall a black cat came to visit me on one of those occasions I was just sitting in the field as a youngster watching the world go by. When I painted this, I had to find and collect some feral poppies that were growing out of the cracks in the urban pavement. (and take them home on the bus) I had to work quite intensely painting those as they don't last long indoors, but it was summer so I had long daylight hours to paint which was important!
